Chapis Cabrera serves as the Director of Economics at the Carlos Rafael Rodriguez University of Cienfuegos (UCf) and is a doctoral candidate in the Local and Territorial Development program. She began her residency on September 23 as part of the Comprehensive Internship Program for Cuban Students in the Russian Federation.
At the SFU Faculty of Economics, she is reviewing Cuban research and comparing it with findings from Russia. The dean of the faculty met with international students, and their discussions covered technology transfer as well as the connections between the university, the business sector, and the government, Chapis Cabrera explained to Prensa Latina via the internet.
“We have been working at the Faculty of Economics, analyzing the similarities and differences in how research findings—both Cuban and Russian—are applied,” said Chapis Cabrera. During her stay, she has visited various companies and institutions to observe the processes of technology and research transfer.
Additionally, she presented her doctoral research and, on October 12, participated in a scientific-practical conference titled “Russia: Sustainable Development Beyond 2030—Russia’s Position and the Contribution of Universities.”
The Comprehensive Internship Program for Cuban Students in the Russian Federation—titled “Internships in Russia: A Step Toward Success”—seeks to foster and consolidate cooperative ties between Russian and Cuban universities, with the aim of strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations in the fields of education and science.
The University of Cienfuegos (UCf) keeps academic cooperation with several Russian educational institutions. The residency aims to expand doctoral training and technology transfer at the local and territorial level, in line with the links between university, industry, and government.
