INDER president highlights achievements of Cuban sports in 2021

Havana, Jan 1 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's 14th place in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and 28 tickets to the 2023 Pan-American Games in Santiago, Chile stand out today among the main achievements by Cuban athletes in 2021.

This was highlighted by the president of the Cuban Institute of Sports (Inder), Osvaldo Vento, who recalled that obtaining seven titles, three silver medals and five bronze medals, was Cuba’s best performance in the last 13 years at the Olympics.

According to JIT website, the INDER president highlighted the fulfillment in Tokyo 2020 of the commitment to be among the top 20 nations, “marking the exception in terms of the levels of economic development that support the other members of that group, and we were able to applaud feats like the fourth title won by Mijain Lopez.”

Vento praised the triple gold medal won by sprinter Omara Durand in the Paralympic event, as well as the six medals (4-1-1) won by the delegation, which ratified “the inclusive and humanistic nature of a sport that lives proud of its exponents in that area “.

Vento noted winning 29 titles, 19 second places and 22 bronze medals in the inaugural edition of the Junior Pan-American Games in Cali-Valle, which allowed him to finish in fifth position and with 28 places for the multisport competition in Santiago de Chile 2023.

When evaluating the performance of Cuban athletes last year, Vento recognized the work in the municipal and provincial levels.”
