Cuban health minister calls to redouble self-care to fight Covid-19

Havana, Jan 18 (Prensa Latina) Health Minister Jose Angel Portal on Tuesday called to redouble self-care to fight Covid-19, a disease that has affected more than one million Cubans.

“The fact that 97.4 percent of Covid-19 patients have recovered so far is not just another figure in the statistics: it is, above all, an indisputable example of the effort Cuba has made to protect the lives of our people,” Portal stressed.

Notwithstanding that reality, all self-care will always be too little to minimize contagions as much as possible, Portal said, quoting the website of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP).

In the current scenario, Covid-19 sequencing studies already show that the Omicron variant is the one that begins to prevail in Cuba, thus increasing the virus transmission.

The rise in daily cases, which is also happening globally, has obliged us to comply with the existing protocols, the minister stated.

We must avoid that coronavirus cases grow, so as not to strain our health system again, Portal recommended.
