Cuba reports 2,799 new Covid-19 cases and five deaths

Havana, Jan 28 (Prensa Latina) Cuba on Friday reported 2,799 new Covid-19 cases, which accounts for a decrease of 15 compared to Thursday's report, and five deaths due to complications related to this disease.

According to the daily report released by the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), 29,170 patients are in hospitals or at home nationwide, 14,275 of whom are suspected cases, 199 are under epidemiological surveillance and 14,696 are active cases (684 fewer than those reported on Thursday).

Of the total number of cases, 2,700 were contacts of confirmed patients, 71 were infected abroad and the source of contagion was not possible to identify in 28 cases.

The MINSAP added that 3,478 patients were discharged after recovering from the disease, so the total number of recovered people is 1,013,640, accounting for 97.7 percent of all cases.

The MINSAP added 14,696 patients were admitted in hospitals, 14,633 of them are clinically stable, while 63 are being treated in intensive care units: 22 are in a critical condition and 41 are seriously ill.

The province with the highest number of Covid-19 patients is Holguin, with 454 cases.

With these statistics, Cuba has accumulated 1,036,783 contagions and 8,388 deaths since March 11, 2020.

Cuba’s lethality rate is 0.81 percent, much lower than 1.55 recorded globally and 1.88 in the Americas, according to data provided by the MINSAP.
