Cuba strengthens cooperation links in health sector

Havana, May 23 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban delegation attending the 75th World Health Assembly, in Switzerland, held meetings with members of several countries present at the event, in order to strengthen relations, it was disclosed here.

The island’s Minister of Health, José Ángel Portal, posted on his Twitter account the meeting held with his South African counterpart, highlighting the interest of both nations in continuing to strengthen the historic cooperation in the health sector.

During the talks with the head of Health of Saudi Arabia, he reported, the existing links were followed up, while the Saudi official expressed his nation’s satisfaction in relation to the work carried out by Cuban professionals there.

Another of the meetings was held between Portal and his counterpart from Malta, a country with which a memorandum of understanding was signed to develop cooperation in the fields of health and research.

Likewise, with Mozambique, there was a dialogue on actions that both states can promote to strengthen the ties of collaboration.

Cuba comes to share experiences, strengthen cooperation ties and ratify its commitment to the health and peace of peoples, said the Antillean minister.

“It is the first Assembly to be held in person after the start of the pandemic caused by Covid-19. Let’s make this scenario a space to unite wills in pursuit of life,” he added.

The 75th session of the World Health Assembly, which began this Sunday and will last until next Friday, will highlight the importance of building a healthy and peaceful planet with the use of science, technology and innovation.

In the conclave, according to the World Health Organization, global strategies on food security and research on tuberculosis will be discussed. This year’s program for the Assembly will focus on the theme “Health for Peace, Peace for Health”.
