Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin told reporters that no one should underestimate China’s “firm determination, strong will and strong ability” to defend its jurisdiction.

He also expressed deep dissatisfaction with Biden’s statements and reiterated that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi reacted on Monday with a call to the Asia-Pacific countries to oppose any attempt to create military blocs, sow discord and exaggerate the differences in the region.

He insisted on consultations in the face of any dispute, betting on peaceful development and mutually beneficial cooperation, and maintaining stability.

Biden assured during his visit to Japan that Washington would intervene with military assistance should Taiwan be invaded, because it is a “commitment made” and it has become “stronger” after Russia’s operation in Ukraine. He indicated that the sanctions against Russia constitute a dissuasive for Beijing, given the increase in military maneuvers and air incursions closer to Taiwan.

In Biden’s opinion, any attempt by China to use force against the island would not be appropriate because it would affect the entire region and lead to a situation similar to that in Ukraine.
