Washington, Mar 27 (Prensa Latina) The shooting that occurred today at a school in Nashville, Tennessee, left three children and four adults dead, including the perpetrator, local authorities said.

According to the police, around 10:00 a.m. local time, a 28-year-old woman armed with at least two assault rifles and a pistol opened fire at a Catholic primary school.

Authorities did not release the names or ages of the victims, but said the three adults who were fatally shot worked at the school.

The shooter entered the school through a side door and traversed the building, moving from the first floor to the second floor and “firing multiple shots,” Don Aaron, a spokesman for the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department, was quoted as saying by CBS News.

Upon the arrival of law enforcement, he specified, the officers went upstairs and saw the shooter, at which point they “attacked” her.

Two of the five officers who responded to the scene fatally shot him, he added.

The Covenant School, located on Burton Hills Boulevard, is a study center attended by children from kindergarten to sixth grade, CBS affiliate WTVF television reported.

Last year, the school conducted an active shooter training program, the station reported.

According to the Gun Violence Archive site, so far this year, the United States has recorded 128 mass shootings.

Due to armed violence, he pointed out, 394 minors up to the age of 17 lost their lives, while 945 were injured.

Likewise, according to a count by the NBC News news network, this is the third shooting that occurred in a school during 2023, with a balance of nine dead and three injured.
