Russia considers response to new Japanese sanctions

Moscow, Jun 5 (Prensa Latina) Moscow considers applying measures of retaliation to another package of Japanese sanctions against Russia, which will have an adequate response, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko said today.

“Indeed, at the end of May a new sanctions package was published, which, of course, was perceived very negatively by us. We are currently considering reciprocal measures”, the senior diplomat told TASS news agency.

The Japanese government extended sanctions against Russia because of the situation in Ukraine. According to the Japanese Foreign Ministry, 24 individuals and 78 organizations were added to the sanctions list, which provides for asset freezing if they are found in Japan.

These include representatives of the Russian Armed Forces command, Concern Almaz-Antey CEO Yan Novikov, journalist Olga Skabéyeva, the National Welfare Fund, the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and the Gorky Automobile Plant.

Tokyo also decided to impose export restrictions on 80 Russian entities, including the Lávochkin Scientific and Production Association, Kamaz, MegaFon, Skolkovo Foundation, Skoltech and others.
