EU broadens scope of sanctions against Russian citizens

Brussels, Jun 6 (Prensa Latina) The European Union (EU) on Tuesday broadened the scope of sanctions against Russian citizens and also included entrepreneurs´ relatives in the black list.

The current restrictive measures may be introduced against natural people and their close relatives on the grounds that they support activities against Ukraine´s territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence.

The Sputnik Russian news agency pointed out that relatives of Russian politicians, entrepreneurs and high-ranking officials were already included in the black lists, but later the Luxembourg Court forced EU to call off such a measure.

On February 25, the EU launched the tenth package of sanctions against Moscow, extending it to 1,473 individuals and 207 bodies.

Freezing assets, blocking bank accounts and banning trips to EU countries were some of those sanctions.

These sanctions have progressively increased despite Moscow’s warnings about their boomerang effect and statements made by President Vladimir Putin, who has repeatedly expressed that Russian military deployment seeks to get rid of Nazism and to turn Donbass into a demilitarized zone.
