World Peace Council repudiates coup in Bolivia
11 de noviembre de 2019, 15:5Brasilia, Nov 11 (Prensa Latina) The World Peace Council repudiated on Monday the coup d'état perpetrated in Bolivia that forced the resignation of constitutional president, Evo Morales, to attempt to calm the situation in the country.
'Another coup d'état is consolidated in the strong Latin America. Among the advances and backward steps of the Latin American struggles, the coup d'état that removes President Evo Morales from the Bolivian government is undoubtedly one of the most aggressive setbacks of recent times,' states a note from that international body sent to Prensa Latina News Agency.
The text, signed by Council President Socorro Gomes, points out that 'for this reason, democratic and peace entities throughout the world are already expressing their solidarity with the Bolivian people in their resistance and struggle, to face with courage the development of this conspiracy.'
It also denounces that, despite the re-election of Evo Morales, with 47 percent of the vote in October, 'the Organization of American States (OAS), promoter of coups, and the European Union felt authorized to demand a second round, questioning the legitimacy of the elections.'
Both 'interfered in the internal affairs of the country, while claiming to play the role of impartial election observers,' the statement warns.
It adds that the unease of the elites reached its peak, with the antipatriotic and undemocratic ultimatum of the Armed Forces to force Evo to stand down. 'It is a monstrous act and a betrayal of the Bolivian people, which we repudiate in the strongest terms,' the statement emphasized.
