South Africa accumulates more than 159,000 Covid-19 cases
Pretoria, Jul 2 (Prensa Latina) South Africa has accumulated 159,333 Covid-19 cases so far, including 8,124 over the last 24 hours, while the disease spreads exponentially throughout the country.
According to Health Minister Zwelini Mkhize, since the previous report, 92 people have died of Covid-19, increasing the total number of deaths to 2,749, with a mortality rate of 1.7%, lower than the world average.
Regarding the latest deaths, 37 were reported in the country's hardest hit province, Western Cape, 28 in Gauteng (where the cities of Pretoria and Johannesburg are), 17 in l Eastern Cape, and 10 in KwaZulu Natal.
The minister added that so far, 76,025 patients have recovered from the disease, accounting for a recovery rate of 47.7%.
Over the last 24 hours, 36,931 tests for the new coronavirus have been performed in South Africa, totaling 1,666,939.
The current evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic in South Africa strongly suggests that there will be an exponential increase in the number of cases in the country over the next few weeks.
