Cuba demands strict control, surveillance to wipe out Covid-19
Havana, Jul 2 (Prensa Latina) Cuba on Thursday insisted on demanding control, strict surveillance and observance of epidemiological measures due to the complexity and high risk SARS-Cov-2 poses, despite the country has been showing favorable results.
Dr. Francisco Duran, national director of Epidemiology department at the Ministry of Public Health, said in his usual press briefing that individual responsibility, compliance with isolation measures, and continue searching for possible cases to avoid new outbreaks are essential measures in these moments.
The doctor commented on the decision that Havana will begin moving on the first stage of post-Covid-19 recovery on Friday, July 3, while the rest of Cuban provinces will move to the second stage of recovery, except Matanzas, which will do so soon.
The specialist pointed out that a significant number of those patients infected with Covid-19 do not show symptoms, something that has not happened with other kinds of respiratory virus, so a single asymptomatic case can cause more than 70 infections as occurred in China in March.
Dr. Duran also insisted on the need to maintain massive testing in all provinces, regardless of the stage, to reach recovery and return to normal daily activities.
Cuba reported five cases this Thursday, totaling 2,353 since the first case of the virus was detected on March 11.
Some 2,221 patients have already recovered, for 94.5% recovery rate, while the death toll remains at 86.
All this is the result of efforts carried out by the government, health authorities and the effectiveness of protocols applied to patients.
