Panama bans caravans of repatriated migrants
Panama, Jul 7 (Prensa Latina) Panamanian authorities warned strongly that migrants cannot organize new repatriation caravans, and threatened to penalize those who break the law, it was learned on Tuesday.
In a communiqué, the National Migration Service (SNM) referred to the prohibition of 'the caravans that are being organized to depart from July 10-15, 2020.'
Authorities warned the foreigners who are contacted by people who offer them the possibility of leaving the country that such caravans have no legal validity for the SNM, and migrants might be victims of cons and they might lose the money requested by the alleged organizers.
The SNM repeated the force of restrictions on people's mobility due to the health crisis in order to control and mitigate the spreading of the Covid-19 pandemic, while it threatened to 'cancel the permanence or residence of foreigners on the national territory' if they violate the measure. It warned that in that case, it would enforce what is established for foreigners who attempt 'against national security, public order, moral or public health', whose violations might be sentenced with deportation, for which the violators would have to wait in a shelter until the borders are opened.
