IMF asks countries for comprehensive response to fight Covid-19
Geneva, Jul 8 (Prensa Latina) The managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, on Wednesday asked world leaders to design a comprehensive response against Covid-19, making emphasis on environmental protection.
In her speech at the World Summit of the International Labor Organization (ILO), the official recalled that the policies to be adopted to minimize the effects of the pandemic must promote resilience and, at the same time, contribute to the climate objectives, thus creating millions of jobs.
She also demanded that the response to the current situation do not affect the latest achievements.
'We are especially concerned that the crisis will jeopardize the important development gains of the last years,' she added.
According to the latest estimates by the IMF, the global economy will shrink 4.9% in 2020, nearly 2% more than April's predictions, and it would grow 5.4% next year.
The ILO World Summit, being held from Tuesday to Thursday, is aimed at promoting sustainable, inclusive and sustainable growth, and full and productive employment, according to the organization.
