UN supports Mexico to guarantee access to medicines at real prices
10 de agosto de 2020, 14:19Mexico, Aug 10 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations (UN) support to Mexico to buy medicines will guarantee access to drugs at real prices, Fabrizio Feliciani, regional director of the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
In a phone interview with Milenio newspaper, Fabrizio Feliciani recalled an agreement signed by the federal government to get some support from the UN to buy the medicines, by which the Secretariat of Health may use UNOPS´ World Price Observatory.
This price observatory will allow Mexico to know the updated prices and variations of 130 medicines recommended for treating Covid-19.
He explained this program, which will be in charge of international tenders in the consolidated purchase of medicines, vaccines and medical equipment to crack down on corruption and shortages, defines the procurement, contract and delivery to the Mexican government.
Feliciani also stressed they are going to plan and see what they are going to buy and the quantities. The performance of each institution is to anticipate what it needs until the end of the year and it is one of the main parameters to prevent corruption.
