Nomination of legislative candidates to begin in Venezuela
Caracas, Aug 11 (Prensa Latina) The Venezuelan National Electoral Council (CNE) began receiving nominations of candidates to participate in the legislative elections slated for December 6.
According to the election schedule, the parties authorized to intervene in the elections will have through August 19 to nominate their candidates for a seat in the National Assembly (Parliament).
Venezuela´s Organic Law of Electoral Processes stipulates that all organizations with national and regional political purposes, groups of voters and citizens on their own initiative, as well as indigenous communities accredited to the CNE, may present candidates.
A total of 107 parties and political entities are authorized to participate on December´s election process, in which 277 deputies will be elected with their respective substitutes, for a 66% increase of parliamentarians to be elected regarding the 2015 election.
Likewise, the CNE reported that 20.733.941 voters make up of the Preliminary Electoral Registry that is already available for consultation and verification on the agency's website.
