China with 11 Covid-19 vaccines under human trials
Beijing, Sep 18 (Prensa Latina) China has 11 Covid-19 vaccine candidates undergoing various stages of human trials, of which four are in final trials and could be available in November, an official source confirmed today.
According to the Minister of Science and Technology, Wang Zhigang, three of the most advanced are of the inactivated type and the fourth is recombinant.
While Wu Guizhen, of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, assured that the investigations flow smoothly and the population could receive some of the preparations in November and December.
Preliminary results -he said- showed the effectiveness of the medicines to produce antibodies in less than one month after applying the first dose and it is expected to guarantee protection between one and three years.
It also assured the safety of Chinese vaccines in case of mutation of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes pneumonia.
Regarding the prices, the National Biotechnological Group commented that they would be around one thousand yuans (US$ 146.3), but they will be fixed together when the final trials conclude and the amount of doses needed for the immunization is determined.
He confirmed the inclusion of thousands of children over three years of age, teenagers and elderly in the clinical trials, with promising results.
But it did not recommend administering any of the drugs to pregnant women at this time.
Overall, China has accumulated 4,744 deaths and 90,800 confirmed patients with respiratory disease.
