China applies another dose of Covid-19 vaccine to first volunteers
Beijing, Sep 27 (Prensa Latina) China began to administer another dose of its recombinant vaccine against Covid-19 to the first 108 volunteers who received it six months ago, with the purpose of further strengthening the immune response.
Press reports specified that the process is carried out after the end of the period of observation of these people this weekend, in order to find out how they reacted to the first application of the product, called Ad5-nCoV.
Once the second dose has been applied they will remain under surveillance for a year, they will not be quarantined, but at least five blood samples will be taken to measure the level of antibodies.
Ad5-nCoV was developed by CanSino Biologics Inc together with a team from the People's Liberation Army, led by biowarfare expert Chen Wei.
It was the first of 11 vaccines obtained in China to combat Covid-19, was the only one with a patent, was reserved for military use for a year, and is one of four in the final phase of clinical trials.
Although it did not show adverse effects, researchers told the Global Times that with its second dose they seek to observe how long it guarantees safety and immunogenicity in the human body.
Under the original plans, the drug is designed to be applied only once and provide protection for two years.
