Venezuela denounces health aftermaths of US blockade to PAHO
29 de septiembre de 2020, 15:13Caracas, Sep 29 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela's Minister of Health Carlos Alvarado denounced on Tuesday the aftermaths of the US coercive, unilateral and illegal measures against his country to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
During his participation in the virtual session of the 58th Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors of that organization, Alvarado pointed out that the US government seized over 30 billion dollars belonging to the Venezuelan people, which thwarts access to vaccines and medicines to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
As a result, Venezuela cannot honor its commitments to the PAHO Strategic and Revolving Fund, the minister noted, and that limits the population's access to health and food.
Alvarado explained that in Venezuela there is a slow and sustained growth of Covid-19 cases because, despite those limitations, the Executive takes measures to contain the pandemic.
He recalled that the attention to Covid-19 is led by the Presidential Commission and coordinated by President Nicolas Maduro, as it is a priority for the Bolivarian State.
The minister thanked the humanitarian and solidarity cooperation of the World Health Organization (WHO), PAHO, the United Nations system, as well as the sister nations of China, Russia, Cuba, Iran and others countries, for their support in the fight against the novel coronavirus.
He also emphasized that Venezuela makes joint production capacities available to the continent and supports the contributions of other countries in order to resolve the health crisis in the region.
