Brazil agrees to expand investigation of black man murdered
Brasilia, Nov 27 (Prensa Latina) The Justice Department of the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul accepted the police request to extend the investigation, which was ending today, of the murder of a black man beaten to death by two white security agents.
The welder Joao Alberto Silveira, 40 years old, received the beating on the night of November 19 in a center of the French commercial network Carrefour of Porto Alegre, capital of that territorial division.
A witness recorded with his cell phone the aggression and the images circulate in social networks. The two suspects were immediately arrested and, according to the police, will be brought to justice for triple homicide.
The final deadline for the investigation would be this Friday and with the extension, the police have 15 more days for the completion of the investigation.
The United Nations representation in Brazil denounced that the violent death of Silveira, on the eve of the date of celebration of the Black Consciousness Day (November 20th), is an act that highlights the various dimensions of racism and the inequalities that exist in the Brazilian social structure.
