Lima, Jan 20 (Prensa Latina) Six former Peruvian foreign ministers demanded the lifting of unilateral sanctions against Venezuela as a trust-building measure for internal dialogue to solve the crisis in that country.
The proposal was made by former Foreign Ministers Allan Wagner, Manuel Rodriguez, Rafael Roncagliolo, Eduardo Ferrero, Diego Garcia Sayan, Oscar Maurtua and Eda Rivas, in a joint communique issued on Wednesday.
The document calls for 'the lifting of the unilateral sanctions that most affect the standard of living of the population as an imperative measure to alleviate the humanitarian crisis' that the Bolivarian country is suffering.
The text tacitly refers to the US economic blockade against Venezuela and the measures taken by the European Union and the so-called Lima Group. It also requests, as a previous measure of trust, the verification of the human rights situation in Venezuela.
It proposes that the Lima Group, the Contact Group and the Oslo Initiative 'should assume convergent initiatives to strengthen the capacity for joint action'.
The document notes that the recent declaration of the High Representative of the European Union, on January 6, is a step in that direction.
The statement stops calling belligerent opponent Juan Guaido, who is not mentioned by the Peruvian former foreign ministers, the president in charge.
