During his press briefing, Dr. Duran lamented the five deaths and called attention on raising awareness about the severity of Covid-19 and deaths.
When explaining the epidemiological situation, the specialist said that 9,775 people have been admitted at medical institutions, 2,909 of whom are suspected cases, 813 are under surveillance and 4,417 are active patients.
To date, 4,374 patients are clinically stable, 18 are in a critical condition and 25 are seriously ill.
The doctor also pointed out that of all 349 new cases, 333 are Cubans and 16 are foreigners, and 306 were contacts of confirmed cases, 26 were infected abroad and the source of contagion has not been determined in 17 cases.
The epidemiologist stressed that 51 percent of the new cases are linked to travelers coming from abroad.
Since November 15, when airport operations were resumed, 57 percent of Covid-19 patients have been infected abroad, Dr. uran said.
He stated that of all 349 cases reported in a day, 206 people were asymptomatic at the time of diagnosis, totaling 11,649.
He described the results between medical discharges and confirmed cases as positive, and said that only 277 patients recovered from the disease in the last few hours, totaling 14,491 recoveries in more than 10 months since the pandemic was detected in Cuba.
Dr. Duran stressed that only in January, 7,066 people were reported with coronavirus and 34 died of the disease.
'January will end with the highest figures of Covid-19 cases. So far, the highest death toll was reported in April 2020, with 57 deaths,' the expert added.
On Tuesday, Cuba's 18 molecular biology laboratories made 10,931 PCR tests in real time, totaling 1,724,741 samples so far.
With these figures, Cuba has an incidence rate of 50.04 per every 100,000 inhabitants in the last 15 days, and the provinces with the largest number of cases are Guantanamo, Matanzas, Havana, Santiago de Cuba and Ciego de Avila.

With these figures, Cuba accumulates 180 deaths and 19,122 people infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, since the pandemic broke out in the national territory in March 2020.
