Iran welcomes Qatari call for regional talks
Tehran, Jan 20 (Prensa Latina) Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Yavad Zarif on Wednesday welcomed his Qatari counterpart's proposal for talks between the Persian Gulf Arab nations and Iran.
On Twitter, Zarif posted that Tehran advocates for a regional cooperation to strengthen the region with no foreign interference.
'As we have consistently emphasized, the solution to our challenges lies in collaborating to jointly form a strong region: peaceful, stable, prosperous and free from global or regional hegemony,' Zarif tweeted.
Zarif thus alluded to his Qatari counterpart Muhammad bin Abdulrahman Al Thani's statement, in which he announced Doha's interest in holding a summit between Iran and the Persian Gulf Arab nations.
Doha's stance comes a few days after reopening its borders to Saudi Arabia, after three-and-a-half-year blockade led by Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Egypt.
