Tehran, Feb 26 (Prensa Latina) Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), on Friday demanded a deal between Iran and the United States, on pain of facing a difficult and complex situation.
Regarding the suspension by Iran of the Additional Protocol to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, the executive considered it a significant loss for the international community, although the IAEA will continue to collect information for three months.
According to the IAEA chief, the solution could be derived from a deal between the Islamic Republic and the parties interested in saving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) or nuclear deal.
After the United States withdrew unilaterally and illegally from the pact, Tehran tried to maintain it, but the European signatories reacted with indifference to the US anti-Iranian punitive measures.
In such circumstances, Iran's Supreme National Security Council ordered the gradual reduction of its nuclear commitments based on paragraphs 26 and 36 of the JCPOA, in order to balance obligations and rights.
As of February 23, the Islamic Republic suspended its voluntary actions in the nuclear pact under the bill on Strategic Action Plan to Lift Sanctions and Protect Iranian Nation's Interests, passed in December 2020 by Parliament.
