Finns elect members of municipal bodies
Helsinki, Jun 13 (Prensa Latina) Over 4.4 million registered Finn voters went to the polls at 293 municipal divisions this Sunday, so as to elect 35,600 candidates from 19 parties running in the elections, local television reported here.
Polling stations opened at 09:00 local time, where 2,000 candidates run for municipal positions, said the Ministry of Justice.
Even though the results are expected to be known shortly after the poll stations close at 8:00 p.m. local time, electoral authorities will inform about official data next Wednesday, Justice Ministry reported.
This year, due to the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, snap elections were conducted from May 26 to 8 this month, in which 1.5 million people voted.
After the electoral results four years ago, the National Party Coalition won, followed by the Social Democratic Party of Finland (SDP), which now heads the alliance in power, and in third place the Finnish Center, which then led the government coalition.
According to a poll by public television YLE, the conservative Kokoomus Party has 19.6% of the votes, followed by True Finns (Euroskeptics) (18%), and Prime Minister Sanna Marin's SDP (17%).
