Ukraine's Jose Marti Institute condemns US blockade against Cuba
Kiev, Jun 14 (Prensa Latina) The president of the Ukrainian Jose Marti Institute, Vasyl Tereshuk, condemned the US blockade that has been in force for over 60 years against Cuba, diplomatic sources informed today.
Interviewed by UKR Life TV channel, the academic noted that Cuba's solidarious character moves the world because of the work of the Henry Reeve medical contingent in the world fight against Covid-19.
However, it is imperative to underscore that Cuban internationalist aid and the country's own fight against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus has been conditioned by the tightening of the US hostile actions, Tereshuk pointed out.
He recalled that since the onset of the pandemic, the United States increased its genocidal policy to smother the Cuban people.
The intellectual stated that the extraterritorial nature of those measures constitutes a violation of the rights of Ukraine's own citizens by preventing them from trading with Cuba.
He also urged the Ukrainian government to support the Cuban resolution against the US economic, commercial and financial blockade, which will be presented once again on June 23, during the resumption of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly. Tereshuk highlighted that the ties between the peoples of his country and Cuba have been historically strong and, in that sense, he recalled that in 1995 a bust of the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko, considered one of the founders of modern literature in this country, was unveiled in Havana.
