Lebanon recommended closure of services to remember blast
Beirut, Aug 2 (Prensa Latina) The Union of Owners of Restaurants, Cafeterias, Discotheques and Pastry Shops of Lebanon recommended today the closure of all the establishments next Wednesday on the first anniversary of the explosion in the port of Beirut.
A communiqué sent by the sector calls for solidarity with the martyrs and wounded and their families and the tourism sector affected by the detonation, estimated to be the largest and most lethal in the history of the country.
The shrapnel and shockwave of the explosion caused the death of 218 people, injured about 6,500 and caused losses estimated in billions of dollars.
'We hope for justice and accountability for all those involved in this unforgivable crime,' the text states.
The authorities decreed August 4 as a day of national mourning to commemorate the catastrophe that turned the Lebanese capital into a zone of war.
