Cuba's New Constitution Defends Sovereignty, Dignity, Diaz-Canel Says

The new Constitution was built by 'all for the good of all', alluding the popular role of the Cuban inhabitants in its development and approach to inclusion, justice and unity, the President wrote on Monday.
The letter approved on December 22 by the People's Power National Assembly is the result of a consultation, held from August 13 to November 15, with the participation of almost nine million people. More than 780,000 proposals, many of them added to the document, were carried out in neighborhoods, schools and workplaces.
According to Diaz-Canel, with the Constitution that will replace the one in force since 1976, 'Cuba will be a better country, more of its time.'
The new Constitution ratifies Cuba's socialist nature and the leading role of the Communist Party in society, reflects changes in the structure of the State, extends rights and individual guarantees, strengthens people's power from the grassroots (the municipalities), and recognizes several forms of property, including private one. lrg/iff/jha/wmr/gdc
