Japan to participate in lunar space station project
19 de octubre de 2019, 0:20Tokyo, Oct 19 (Prensa Latina) Japan announced its participation in a United State-led project to put a space station into orbit around the Moon.
During a meeting at the National Space Policy Strategic Venue, attended by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and cabinet ministers, a decision was made to join NASA's Lunar Gateway, as a base for missions on the Moon.
They agreed that Tokyo's participation would foster Japan-US cooperation in promoting the peaceful use of outer space, and would help to boost the country's international profile through technology, the TV station NHK reported.
For his part, Abe noted that Japan's decision was based on its technological advantage, which was developed, precisely, in projects like the Kibo space lab and the Kounotori cargo spacecraft.
He added that his Government will work hard to expand a new border for humankind.
