Quito, Mar 24 (Prensa Latina) The National Assembly (Parliament) of Ecuador urged the Government to prioritize health care and development amid the situation affecting the country, where 18 people died and 981 are infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus that causes Covid-19.
The request was made by all benches represented in Parliament through an agreement signed by each party and National Assembly President Cesar Litardo.
According to the document, the lawmakers asked the Government to instruct the Ministry of Economy and Finance to allocate all resources in cash in the Treasury's Single Account to cover the expenditures and investments demanded by the state of exception decreed to fight the pandemic.
In that regard, they referred to those funds allotted to guarantee the full operation of the national healthcare system, social protection and auxiliary services such as those provided by the public force, risks and emergencies, security and logistics.
They called on Ecuadorian society and public institutions to be united and make the citizens' interests a top priority.
The lawmakers' requests came at a time when a nationwide crusade is being carried out to curb the spreading of the new SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus, which has seriously affected the national and family economies, as the nation is practically paralyzed.
