South Asia accumulates more than 200,000 Covid-19 cases
New Delhi, May 22 (Prensa Latina) The vast region of South Asia, which is inhabited by one-fifth of humankind, reports more than 200,000 cases of the dangerous Covid-19 pandemic.
The Center for Disaster Management of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation pointed out on its website that all eight nations in the area (Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka) accumulate 209,62 cases and 5,267 deaths by Covid-19, the disease caused by the new SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus.
Among the hardest-hit countries in the region are India, with 118,447 cases and 3,583 deaths, followed by Pakistan with 50,649 contagions and 1,067 deaths, and Bangladesh with 28,511 and 408, respectively.
So far, Afghanistan has reported 8,676 cases and 193 deaths, followed by Sri Lanka (1,055-9), Maldives (1,216-4), Nepal (487-3) and Bhutan (21-0).
At least 71,008 Covid-19 patients in South Asia have been discharged from hospital.
