Nicaragua monitors second most dangerous volcano globally
Managua, Jun 26 (Prensa Latina) Apoyeque, considered the second most active volcano globally, located next to its capital Managua, is being monitored by the Nicaraguan Seismic Network, after three slight movements were registered Wednesday night.
The Nicaraguan Institute for Territorial Studies (INETER) is closely monitoring the seismic events that occur around the Apoyeque Volcano, 'a point to always keep under study in order to protect families and our country,' Vice President Rosario Murillo said on Thursday.
The vice-president recalled this volcano, located in the central coastal region of Lake Managua (or Xolotlan Lake), caused in the past disastrous seismic and volcanic activities in the area where Managua, capital of the country, is located.
The slight telluric movements reported on Wednesday registered intensities of 1.8, 1.6 and 2.4 degrees on the Ritcher scale, and their epicenters are located in a range between five and seven kilometers deep.
Despite the volcano is inactive, there is some volcanic activity around the cone and a lot of sulfur smell.
