Global demand for air cargo decreased 20.3 percent in May

Geneva, Jul 1 (Prensa Latina) The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported on Wednesday that the global demand for cargo decreased 20.3% in May, compared to the same month last year.
Although the report made it clear that it is an improvement in contrast to April, when the demand dropped more than 27 points, the IATA noted that the capacity is insufficient to meet the demand, as a result of a reduction in cargo operations on passengers' planes, which have been grounded.
According to the information, the global cargo capacity decreased 34.7% in May, compared to the same month in 2019, a slight slowdown since the interannual fall of 41.6% in April.
The IATA pointed out that the volume in planes to carry international cargo was reduced 66.4% in May, in contrast to the previous year, due to the closing of passengers' services due to the Covid-19 crisis, a little more than the annual reduction of 75.1% in April.
According to the IATA, all continents were affected by the decrease in cargo transportation, especially Latin America and Europe.
