Russia denounces US falsification on nuclear tests issue
Moscow, Jul 5 (Prensa Latina) Russia denounced the falsifications and distortions in a report issued by the United States on the disarmament process and compliance with the Nuclear Weapons Test Ban Treaty.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs referred to obvious falsifications and distortion of facts contained in a new annual report from the US State Department to Congress on compliance with international treaties and agreements in the field of arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation.
The United States is trying once again to create the appearance of its responsible application of specialized treaties and agreements, according to an official statement from the Foreign Ministry.
Moscow stresses that it is well-known that it was the US administration the one that led to the dismantling of the entire international legal framework of disarmament and non-proliferation.
Washington's purpose to take on the role of 'judge' in this field lacks an international legal basis and cannot be used for conclusions and especially accusations against other sovereign states, the statement denounces.
Furthermore, the fact that the White House elevates to the rank of state policy the denial of visas to Russian experts in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation, who are to participate in events in the United States, including through the UN, only confirms the Washington's hypocrisy, it points out.
No evidence supports US claims that Russia allegedly violated the nuclear testing moratorium by conducting trials that do not meet 'zero power' standards, the foreign ministry says.
