Ecuador's Vice President resigns
7 de julio de 2020, 15:46Quito, Jul 7 (Prensa Latina) Ecuador's Vice President Otto Sonnenholzner presented his resignation on Tuesday, after a year and a half in office.
On his speech issued on the national radio and television network, Sonnenholzner thanked the opportunity and provided an overview of the work carried out in the 18 months of his administration.
Likewise, among those pending, he noted a deal for social security, which due to its complexity requires the participation of members.
As for the fight against Covid-19, he underscored that difficult decisions were made and called for joint work so that the pandemic does as little damage as possible.
'I don't feel and I have never felt like a politician, but I know that our world has changed. In this new reality, we require very different ways of doing politics as many understand it nowadays. Ecuador needs new solutions to face the problems. So today, as we tackle a more stable situation, I can finally make this decision,' he assured.
In this regard, he added, 'It is not an easy decision, the most comfortable thing would be to stay here, but I have never acted around my comfort, so today the responsibility is to leave.'
He also referred to the next general elections, scheduled for February 2021, which he described as the most relevant in his country's history.
