Costa Rica records alarming figure of 649 Covid-19 cases in a day
9 de julio de 2020, 17:53San Jose, Jul 9 (Prensa Latina) Costa Rica's Health Minister Daniel Salas reported on Thursday another 649 Covid-19 cases in a day, acknowledging such figure in a single day shows an exponential acceleration of the novel coronavirus' spread.
Such number of cases was projected with compliance with measures between July 20 and 21, and without compliance between July 13 and 14, which shows an exponential acceleration, Salas pointed out in the daily press briefing at the Presidential House, attended by President Carlos Alvarado.
'This situation merits the advancement of lockdown measures that will be analyzed in a meeting of leaders tonight and timely communicated to the public,' Salas said.
The Minister of Health indicated that including these 649 new cases, Costa Rica accumulates 6,485 Covid-19 cases, between zero and 96 years old; 3,716 are men and 2,769 women; 4,497 are Costa Ricans and 1,888 foreigners; and 5,214 are adults, 306 older adults, 873 minors and 92 in research.
He noted that there are 120 people hospitalized -new record-, 14 of them in Intensive Care Units, with an age range of 43 to 82 years old; there are infected in all the provinces and in 79 of the 82 cantons; there are 2,023 recoveries from Covid-19 and 25 deaths, 10 women and 15 men, with an age range of 26 to 92 years.
Regarding the 2,023 recoveries from Covid-19, the Health Minister detailed that they are between zero and 94 years old; 1,115 are men and 908 are women; 1,585 are adults, 85 older adults, 299 minors and 54 in investigation; while they count recoveries in the 79 cantons where they detected Covid-19 patients.
