Venezuela extends Covid-19 pandemic alert for 30 days
Caracas, jul 12 (Prensa Latina) The president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, extended for 30 days the state of constitutional alarm to face the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
His decision was confirmed by Vice President Delcy Rodriguez who said 431 new positive cases had been detected, raising to 8,803 the number of people infected with Covid-19.
Rodriguez said health authorities recorded 390 community-transmitted infections in the states of Zulia (132), Capital District (71), Merida (68), Miranda (49), Nueva Esparta (27), Anzoategui (16), La Guaira (8), Trujillo (7), Lara (7) and Yaracuy (5).
It also noted that 41 imported cases were identified, 36 corresponding to migrants repatriated from Colombia, and five from contact with international travelers in the states of Nueva Esparta (3), Tachira (1) and Merida (1).
The Venezuelan Vice President indicated that so far 3,243 people infected with the pathogen SARS-CoV-2 entered the country from Colombian territory, as well as 441 from Brazil, 119 from Peru and 96 from Ecuador.
She also regretted the death of three patients, bringing the death toll from the Covid-19 pandemic in Venezuela to 83.
Rodriguez insisted on the call for extreme prevention measures, particularly for people between 20 and 49 years old, a social group that represents 61.8 percent of the cases reported in the country.
