China negotiates third Covid-19 vaccine test with four countries
13 de julio de 2020, 13:52Beijing, Jul 13 (Prensa Latina) Chinese company CanSino Biologics is today in negotiations with Russia, Brazil, Chile and Saudi Arabia to carry out the third phase of trials of a recombinant vaccine against Covid-19 that it developed along with military scientists.
According to the firm's cofounder, Qiu Dongxu, discussions are underway, and it is hoped to begin the process 'very soon' and recruit 40,000 volunteers.
The company is also building a plant to produce doses of the preparation from the beginning of 2021, as soon as its effectiveness and safety are confirmed.
China seeks to go into partnership with other nations in the latest trials of its Covid-19 vaccine candidates, because the substantial reduction of patients in its territory prevents the research from being carried out, which requires a large number of volunteers.
The recombinant (Ad5-nCoV) was obtained by scientific teams from CanSino Biologics Inc and the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and has already undergone two phases of human testing and for the third phase there is an agreement with Canada, as it was revealed a few days ago here.
On June 29, the firm informed that the drug was approved for use in the military sector for one year and the Military Central Commission - the highest military body - will be in charge of authorizing its use in any other injection plan for civilians.
Apart from the recombinant, China is testing several inactivated vaccines, one with mRNA technology and another with the DNA method.
