Indigenous people, greatest Amazon wealth, Peru's cardinal says
Lima, Jul 14 (Prensa Latina) Peru's Cardinal Pedro Barreto stated that the indigenous peoples are the most important thing in the Amazon region, because they have preserved it with their ancestral wisdom.
Barreto made this reflection, on occasion of the Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon Region, which will encourage dialogue among different social leaders to establish consensus to ensure respect for the rights of the native peoples.
The new Ecclesial Conference responds to a desire by Pope Francis to form a responsible, participatory church and in communion with society, according to a report by the organizers.
The Conference will not only be made up of bishops but also social leaders and both sectors will work together to promote actions against any injustice in the Amazon region, the specialized website Servindi highlighted.
