Barbados government urges to prepare for tropical storm
Bridgetown, Jul 22 (Prensa Latina) Barbados government urged on Wednesday its residents to complete the preparations for the approach of Tropical Storm Gonzalo in the next two days.
The country's meteorological services issued an alert statement due to the proximity of Gonzalo, which is moving west with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour.
The Barbadian technical office pointed out that the satellite images indicate the hint of a developing eye and this trend confirms the intensification of the tropical storm, which in the next 12 or 24 hours could become a category one hurricane.
The press release warns that as Gonzalo proceeds westward through the central Atlantic Ocean, further strengthening is anticipated and, at some point, the tropical storm warning will arrive in Barbados.
Kerry Hinds, director of the Department of Emergency Management, reminded citizens that despite the system's focus, Covid-19 protocols are still in force and called on them to implement emergency plans for their families and businesses early.
