Bach insists on a safe environment for the Olympics
Issy-les-Moulineaux, Francia, (Prensa Latina) The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, insisted on Friday on the need to guarantee a 'safe environment' for athletes, fans and members of the Olympic family at the postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
We are preparing to face all the different possible scenarios. There is only one basic and essential premise: The top priority is that these Olympic Games will only take place in a safe environment for everyone, Bach told the Eurosport television channel. According to the IOC headline, it is unknown what the world will be like in a year's time if you can leave your home or go to a restaurant with or without a mask due to the global health crisis caused by the Covid-19 epidemic.
The senior executive described the preparation for the world's most complex event in a year as a 'gigantic task'.
For the IOC president, the next edition of the Olympics could open a path of hope for the planet after so much uncertainty and pain caused by the pandemic.
It can be a great symbol of hope and resistance, but also of solidarity. What we have learned from this crisis, is that we can only overcome it, if we are in solidarity with each other. The Games can be a wonderful expression of this solidarity at a global level', he stressed.
