Covid-19 death toll in Chile exceeds 13,000
Santiago de Chile, Jul 26 (Prensa Latina) The number of deaths in Chile linked to Covid-19, both confirmed and suspected, rose to 13,023, the Health Ministry reported on Sunday.
The research, in its 36th edition, indicates that of this death toll, 9,020 are deaths confirmed by a positive PCR test, and 4,183 are associated with the disease, but have not yet been confirmed by the corresponding test.
These figures represent an increase of 516 and 406, respectively, from the previous report.
When the data are broken down by region, the Metropolitan Region, where the capital is located, has by a wide margin the highest number of deaths, with 9,764, of which 2,461 are pending confirmation.
The report explains that when comparing the deaths registered and reported in Chile since 2016, it can be seen that, starting in May 2020, there has been an increase over the average for the previous four years.
