China expands global services with BeiDou navigation satellite
Beijing, Jul 31 (Prensa Latina) China started on Friday announcing large-scale global services with its BeiDou-3 navigation satellite system, when fully completed.
President Xi Jinping led the ceremony to launch the operation, which started almost a month after the last device that makes up the network went into outer space.
BeiDou-3 has 35 third-generation satellites and provides an alternative to the United States-owned Global Positioning System (GPS), the European Galileo systems and the Russian GLONASS.
China began construction of its positioning system two decades ago, consisting of three separate satellite constellations.
Last year, China sold products from its navigation satellite system to more than 120 countries, to use it in research, agriculture and construction, among others.
