Haiti accumulates over 7,400 Covid-19 cases
31 de julio de 2020, 16:45Port-au-Prince, Jul 31 (Prensa Latina) Haiti's health authorities reported on Friday a total of 7,412 Covid-19 cases and 161 deaths at the most recent press briefing on the pandemic's behavior.
The figure implies a growth of 34 new patients compared to the previous day, and 4,467 recoveries from the disease since March.
Of the 34 new afflicted, 16 are from the West department, seven from Artibonite, the second region most hit by the pandemic, and North, Center, Southeast and Northeast have two cases each, while Northwest, Nippes and Grand Anse have one, respectively.
Despite the sustainable rise in cases, authorities maintain that there is a trend towards a decrease in the Covid-19 rate, which currently stands at 18 percent, according to Jacques Boncy, director general of the National Laboratory of Public Health.
However, Boncy noted that the spread continues to pose a threat to the country. 'The virus is still there,' the doctor indicated.
Even though there is some popular mistrust, the number of daily tests has not gone down. Up to date, 18,174 samples have been carried out, and lately the tests that are now conducted in the North, Center and South departments, in addition to the capital, have been decentralized, Boncy set out.
