Chile's unemployment rises and reaches 12.2%
Santiago de Chile, Jul 31 (Prensa Latina) Chile´s unemployment rate continued scaling up amid the Covid-19 pandemic, reaching 12.2% in the second quarter of the year, the National Statistics Institute (INE) reported today.
The National Employment Survey applied by INE showed it has been the highest toll in the last ten years, thus accounting for a 4.9% increase since April 2019.
In previous quarter (March-April-May) unemployment rate reached 11.2%, considered as highest.
When evaluating the survey, Sandra Quijada, director of INE, said the workforce decreased by 15.4%, as many as 1,139,000 individuals, and also stressed that 1.7 million jobs were lost in 2019.
