Sources from the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) informed EFE that the two fatalities were workers who operated the machine that was carrying out repairs on the catenary.
The wounded received medical assistance at first at a field hospital installed in the area and were later transferred to the Coimbra University Hospital.
According to ANEPC, The train is an Alfa Pendular, which can reach 220 kilometers per hour, although local media suggest that it was slower because it had just made a stop, and was traveling with 212 passengers on board.
