United Nations, Aug 1 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations Summit on Biodiversity will be held virtually on September 30 at the level of heads of State and Government, UN authorities confirmed.
His Excellency Mr. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, President of UN General Assembly in the 74th session, shared a link with details of the event on his official Twitter account.
Under the theme 'Urgent Action on Biodiversity for Sustainable Development', the event aims to address the challenges in achieving that goal amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Precisely, as part of the measures taken at UN to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, each member state, observer state and the European Union can present to that summit a pre-recorded video statement from their head of State or Government, ministers or other chief of delegation.
Those videos will be screened in the General Assembly hall, while a representative from each delegation will be physically on site.
The September event will deal with the crisis humanity is facing due to the degradation of biodiversity and the urgent need to accelerate action about this issue.
