Africa reports more than 20,600 deaths from Covid-19
Addis Ababa, Aug 4 (Prensa Latina) Covid-19 deaths reported so far in the African continent amount to 20,612, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) reported.
Africa CDC, based in Addis Ababa, also announced that as of this Tuesday, the total number of cases detected in the region exceeds 968,000 and recoveries reached 629,726.
According to the update on the disease, caused by the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus, 'southern Africa, northern Africa and west Africa are, in that order, the most affected regions in terms of confirmed cases.'
South Africa accumulates more than a half of patients diagnosed with the virus in the region and tops the list of countries with the worst situation.
Established in 2016 and officially launched in 2017, Africa CDC is a specialized technical institution of the African Union to support public health initiatives of Member States and strengthen their capacity to detect, prevent, control and respond quickly and effectively to diseases.
