USA-Mexico trade falls 21.3 percent in the first half of 2020
Mexico, Aug 5 (Prensa Latina) A drop of 21.3 percent registered the total commercial exchange between Mexico and the United States in the first semester of 2020, Millennium revealed on Wednesday.
The newspaper echoes a report by the Census Bureau, according to which the downturn totaled 243.9 billion dollars, compared to the same period in 2019, which was 308.954 billion dollars. According to the Mexican newspaper, for the first six months of 2020, Mexico's exports to the United States counted up 144.56 billion dollars, while for the same period in 2019 those shipments reached 179.481 billion dollars, that is, they fell 19,7 percent amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
The records from the Census Bureau show that total Mexican exports to the US generated the greatest damage reported since 2009, when 79.819 billion dollars were sent.
Meanwhile, imports from the US to Mexico in the first six months of 2020, amounted 99.34 billion dollars, while for that same period but in 2019, they reached 129.473 billion dollars, that is to say, a downturn of 23.5 percent.
The Census Bureau displayed that Mexico remained the second US commercial partner, since the country that ranked first despite trade conflicts with the US was China.
