Cuba analyzes more than three thousand tests daily to detect Covid-19
Havana, Aug 6 (Prensa Latina) Cuban specialists analyze more than three thousand tests daily to detect the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19, for which a total of 285 thousand have been accumulated to date. 471 samples evaluated.
These studies are carried out throughout the national territory to detect the greatest number of people with the disease and control the transmission of the virus, reiterated Dr. Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health, at the usual morning press conference for update this data.
This Caribbean nation has several laboratories in the west, center and east of the country, equipped with modern technologies to carry out diagnostic tests and highly specialized specialists, who work continuously in this epidemiological emergency.
Both rapid tests and real-time PCR tests are applied to population groups that have been exposed or are at higher risk of contracting the disease, even when they do not present symptoms.
Dr. Durán has reiterated that the number of asymptomatic among the cases confirmed with Covid-19 is one of the most worrisome elements in the confrontation with the pandemic in Cuba and in the world, since these apparently healthy people constitute a threat due to their high probability of infecting others.
Specialists warn of the need for insulation and hygienic-sanitary measures, the only effective ways so far to contain the spread.
Of the 285 thousand 471 samples analyzed, two thousand 775 have been positive for the new coronavirus since the first cases were diagnosed in this country on March 11.
Until this Thursday, 276 patients (the so-called active cases) remain hospitalized with the disease, 272 of them with stable clinical evolution and four in serious condition.
For clinical-epidemiological surveillance, 595 patients are hospitalized, and another 6,711 people are followed in their homes from Primary Health Care. The total number of deaths is 88 and two thousand 409 patients have recovered.
Health authorities reiterate that the risk is still extremely high, which is why they insist on compliance with control and protection measures to prevent the spread of the disease. sus/mem / rbp
